Manager-Vacuum Interrupter Technology
OVERVIEWS&C Electric Company's leadership position in electric power system innovation comes from identifying specialist opportunities and creating the products required to meet them.
To continue that leadership we are extending our capability in vacuum interruption technology, so that we can create the unique interrupters we need to meet our highly specialized needs.
As part of that effort we are seeking a leader for the vacuum technology team, someone who can make us self-reliant in vacuum interrupting technology and build the team to support this capability for the long term.
The successful candidate will report to the VP - Technology and Breakthrough Innovation and be based in Chicago.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Establishing the R&D activities necessary to enable the next generation of S&C vacuum interrupters.
Collaborating with Vacuum Interrupter Engineering colleagues to ensure a clear and effective exchange of information across the product lifecycle Effectively communicating with internal and external stakeholders to agree strategies, priorities and objectives Providing regular updates on successes, setbacks and progress on commitments.
Ensuring the team follows rigorous research methods, for example through design of experiments and extensive use of FEA Assisting in problem solving efforts during product design and production Agreeing priorities with stakeholders across the enterprise, including recommendations on equipment, materials and processes Establishing skillset and budget objectives based on the strategies and objectives, including the need for people and equipment in both the short and long term.
To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or physics.
An advanced degree is a plus Solid understanding of the design and application of vacuum interrupters, including dependencies between the vacuum interrupter and the switchgear itself An aptitude for physical and experimental design, as well as a track record of innovation in new product development Demonstrated experience building teams, managing performance and mentoring engineers At least 10 years' experience developing new products for application in the electric power, vacuum processing or plasma processing industries Major Physical DemandsEnvironment:
Work performed in a regular office environment but may include time in electric utility sites.
